Lira: The Northern Uganda Volleyball Association (NUVA), in collaboration with the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF), has officially commenced the National Referees Training Course 2026. The three-day event, held at Lavington Park in Lira City, began on Tuesday, August 11th, 2026, and is scheduled to conclude on August 13th. A total of 32 participants are attending the course, representing various regions including Lango, Acholi, Karamoja, Buganda, and the media fraternity. The training aims to enhance the skills of aspiring referees and ensure quality officiating across the sport.

The course is being led by FIVB International Referee Innocent Komakech, who will conduct both theoretical and practical sessions. NUVA Chairperson Daniel Okwee officially opened the training, expressing excitement about rebuilding volleyball in the region and the potential for participants to become FIVB International Referees. Okwee stressed the importance of high-quality officiating for the growth of volleyball in Northern Uganda, urging attendees to engage seriously with the training content. Successful candidates upon completion will be certified to officiate games sanctioned by NUVA and UVF for the 2026/27 season.

NUVA serves as the regional body responsible for the development, promotion, and regulation of volleyball in Northern Uganda under the umbrella of the Uganda Volleyball Federation.
